Air pollution & climate change?

I would like to find out your opinions on air pollution and climate change.

What measures do you think would be best in fighting environmental problems?

What can we do to preserve our planet?

What is the gravity of the situation?

Do you feel that most of the conferences held on these subjects tend to exaggerate the situation and do not address the real problems?

Answer:
<< What measures do you think would be best in fighting environmental problems? >>

Short term - use less, reuse and recycle where possible.

Medium term - start putting right the damage we've caused.

Long term - develop new and alternative fuels and technologies.

<< What can we do to preserve our planet? >>

As above but also look at ways to remove the greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Several such geoengineering schemes are being considered, some have been developed to prototype level, tested and shown to work. Implementing a combination of these and similar schemes could reverse the warming trend and bring the climate back to within natural tolerances.

<< What is the gravity of the situation? >>

Much depends on where you live and the time scale. If you're in Africa or Asia things are much more serious than if you're in America or Europe. Africa and Asia have already suffered extensive loss of life, crops, land etc as a result of the effects of climate change. Europe and America can mitigate against many of the effects.

<< Do you feel that most of the conferences held on these subjects tend to exaggerate the situation and do not address the real problems? >>

The conferences don't exaggerate the situation, the media often do. The final reports are often watered down to comply with the wishes of the Bush Administration.

They're not really addressing the real problems - there's been an awful lot of talk and other then the Japanese and Europeans there's been very little action. What action has been taken is only slowing things down and isn't enough to stop climate change. That requires something much more radical and to date, the politicians haven't shown much interest. They'll probably do the same as they did with climate change which was to ignore it for many decades and only pay attention to the issue when it became critical.

At the end of the day it's worth keeping things in perspective and to do this means ignoring much of the rubbish that's circulating and instead concentrate on the facts. Ignore the opinions and media reports as these are often biased one way or another, look instead at the science of climate change.
climate change is real. it's been happening for a long time. that is the evidence that it is a cause by humans. as we develop new technologies, we use more energy and pollute more. one way to preserve our planet is to use less energy, drive less or get a hybrid or a car that runs on ethanol, and inform people that climate change is real and that we need to end it if we want animals to be alive in the future.
What measures do you think would be best in fighting environmental problems? - best would be to obtain a change in people's belief system http://www.greatturningtimes.org...

What can we do to preserve our planet? - the planet will change and adapt; the problem is the beuty we see now, including human civilisation may well disappear.

What is the gravity of the situation? - increasing human population, water shortages, soil errosion, loss of bio-diversity, loss of fish stocks, loss of ice caps & melting permafrost, peak oil ...

Do you feel that most of the conferences held on these subjects tend to exaggerate the situation and do not address the real problems? - conferences usually underplay the problem because people don't like bad news. They don't address the real problems of increasing consumption of resources by humans on a finite planet, because no-one will accept that we can't all live a Hollywood lifestyle.
I teach my kids to do everything they can to be part of the sollution, conserve enegy~ turn everything off if not in use, recycle~re-use~and reduce! plants trees and perrenials, my property is loaded! clean up litter! use recycled paper, do not use plastic or styrofoam, walk or ride bike rather than drive. Use energy saving light bulbs! And most of all to be aware and to spread the word!
yes, it's really true, and if you have some memory you can see clima is really changing so fast... there no seasons as before, Spring and Fall aren't existing as before, just severe Winter and very hot Summers.. for ex. here in Europe there is in several differents temparatures, very hot in south and still cold in north and we are already in the Summer...
Just stop the oil, and change energy resources for natural, energies.with will be enough to change this kind of things,
The Intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) is an international group of scientists that evaluates scientific and technical information related to climate change and global warming(an increase in Earth' s surface temperature) . the IPCC publishes an assessment of the latest scientific data related to climate change about every 5 years. in its3rd assessment report , released in January 2001, and summarized here , the IPCC sharply increased its projections, predicting a global average surface temperature rise of 1.4 to 5.8 C ( 2.5 TO 10.4 F) OVER THE PERIOD 1990 to 2100
compared to a previous assessment of 1. 0 to 3.5 C ( 1.8 to 6.3 F ) for the same period . this IPCC report also for the first time identified human activity as the primary cause for global warming .

Air pollution can expand beyond a regional area to cause global effects. The stratosphere is the layer of the atmosphere between 16 Km (10 mi) and 50 km (30mi) above sea level. Its said that parts of Bangladesh ., pats of India , Maldives ,parts of of Indonesia will be in the sea .
