d) Would these changes be negative or positive for our lifestyle? Explain. How is this sort of value judgement made?

Answer:
1. a) global warming, overpopulation, deforestation, municipal waste/landfills, ooze hole, PCB/mercury/lead introduced into the environment.

b) reduce greenhouse gas emissions, empowering women and contraception, defeating warlords so economic aid can reach poor farming villages that must chop trees to farm or starve, recycling, reduce airborne emissions, put pressure on large industries to reduce or eliminate introduction of particulates into the environment.

c) need to consume less electricity and drive less, need to change views of women, need to think of more of your friends or yourself serving in the military, need to buy more recycled products, need to stop using aerosol cans, need to vote more and vote for environmentalists.

d) both. It would be negative not to use electricity freely and drive at will by putting restrains on your own behavior, but in the long run have more positive effects for the environment. This sort of value judgement is made based on prior behavior and views that needed to be changed for a greater cause.
