Determining goals during a clinical interview?

During clinical interviewing how do you know if you have imposed goals upon the participant or if the participant has determined them for him- or herself?

..An excellent question. The answer is, if the psychologist actually ponders this question, he or she KNOWS the answer. Either you nudged the client towards certain goals, or you went the goals of the client regardless of how you felt about them.
